Business-ready engineering apprentices available immediately.

The Coventry-based Manufacturing Technology Centre is looking for partner employers to take advantage of the centre’s highly-acclaimed apprentice training scheme by employing a work-ready apprentice.

The MTC is offering manufacturers the chance to recruit young engineers and technicians who have already completed advanced elements of the MTC’s apprenticeship programme and are ready to take the next steps in their careers. All salary costs for the placements will be covered by the MTC for a trial period in an innovative scheme similar to an extended interview.

Thirty-four apprentices are available for placement immediately, having completed 18 months of their training. As well as basic engineering principles, they have already received extensive training in  CNC machining, metrology and robotics and automation and been exposed to the latest emerging technologies in the MTC’s industry-leading Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre.

Colin Bancroft, apprentice placement leader, said, “We have ensured that taking on an apprentice is risk-free to businesses as we offer a free trial period to ensure the apprentice fulfils the requirements of the business before a commitment is made.”

He added, “MTC apprentices are exactly what the manufacturing industry needs to fill the high-tech jobs of the future. Our apprenticeship courses have the advantage of not being company-specific or sector-specific, so the result is a fully-rounded apprentice capable of filling the most demanding of manufacturing and engineering positions. Several of our apprentices have gone on to win awards and accolades for their skills.” .

The MTC is recruiting another 96 apprentices in its September intake, but existing apprentices are available for employer placements now, with further opportunities in August.

Colin Bancroft said, “We have work-ready individuals who are highly-skilled, and highly-motivated and ready to deploy into businesses with immediate effect.

The MTC was founded by the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and TWI Ltd. The MTC’s industrial members include some of the UK’s major global manufacturers.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
